new prints!

Spring is here and so are some new graphic prints! Trying to develop my ideas to include animals and the shapes of plants found in the biritsh countryside has been really quite easy with all this lushious sunshine recently! Here are a few bits I have been working on, before I add them to my gallery:

drawing

Here are some drawings I did in the summer for some new work I did based on the Barbican for my exhibition at the Beetroot Tree Gallery in September/October. You can see how the drawing builds up from sketches to a finalised line image ready for manipulation. I also did some bi-plane sketches too. Just for fun!

I love architecture, but I also love how it interacts with nature visually. Even in the simple suburban setting of terraced houses local to me, the textures and shapes contrast beautifully. The idea of suburbia has always been a heavy undercurrent in my ideas: historically and still today it challenges the environmental boundaries between city and country, and becomes a middle ground where the two, and even more, combine. One example is the new context of palm trees in English gardens, which I have noticed more and more on my general travels.

architecture - portsmouth

So here are some old pictures of things that have been influential on me over the summer. I took a trip to Portsmouth in July to do some touristy things, but also because I absolutely adore mid-century architecture and patterns. I particularly picked Portsmouth because it has a fantastic 1960's library, designed by my very own grandfather Kenneth Norrish. It has become the subject of one of my favourite wallpieces!

ooh post number one...

Well here is my first post on my running blog! I am going to be using this as a place to post up all things relating to my inspiration and my news. I also will be including new ideas and work in progress, such as drawings and samples. Enjoy!
